You learn many of the unusual defenses the target creature has. The spell tells you the creature's spell resistance, immunities and other protections such as regeneration, haste, or damage reduction. Information is conveyed from the perspective of the caster, so an immunity to mind affecting spells may be an alignment dependent effect that is only active between the caster and target. The caster cannot discern such differences.
