Aragrakh[]

Region(s): Everywhere
Race(s): Dragons

Aragrakh, also known as Old High Wyrm, is an ancient draconic language. The language is innately known by all types of 'high' dragonkin, but not by racial cousins such as the Wyvern. In is speculated that in Draconic society Aragrakh is used for ritual and ceremony as well as polite conversation and games. Draconic on the other hand is used for more 'base' communications and impolite conversation, for example with lesser races such as Humans, Dwarves and Elves.

Few scholars know and speak Aragrakh because its study is of relatively little use, and possibly dangerous. The draconic alphabet underlying Aragrakh can be learned more simply by studying the Draconic language. And sources requiring proficiency in Aragrakh are sufficiently rare that only devout academics pursue the study required.

It has occasionally been speculated that some Wyrms, most notably the Chromatic kind, go out of their way to harass and kill human speakers of Aragrakh which come to their attention.

In 1291 DR the Red Dragon Xorvilandazazzr reportedly flew over the City of Crimmor carrying a boulder. It subsequently dropped the boulder on top of an arriving grand caravan, causing a stampede among the workers and merchants unloading it. It was later discovered by the City guard that a resident Cleric of Oghma and speaker of Aragrakh was expecting to take delivery of an artefact to be deciphered. What prompted this discovery was the City guard uncovering that the boulder had dropped precisely on top of the caravan carrying the relic, killing the scholar who had climbed in to help carefully unload it.

Xorvilandazazzr was last seen flying North, on a heading roughly towards Waterdeep and Baldur's Gate.
