Mulhorandi[]

Region(s): Mulhorandi, Thay, Semphar, Chessenta, and Murghôm
Race(s): Humans mostly

Mulhorandi is a regional tongue in Eastern Faerûn, and the official language of Mulhorand and Thay. Other regions where it is commonly spoken include Murghôm, Semphar, and Chessenta.

In most areas where Mulhorandi is spoken, it uses the Celestial alphabet. Thay however uses the Infernal alphabet instead.

Common Mulhorandi surnames include: Ankhalab, Anskuld, Fezim, Hahpet, Nathandem, Sepret, and Uuthrakt.

The Mulhorandi language descends from a language family known as Rauric. Only Mulhorandi and Untheric survived from this linguistic family. Mulhorandi preserved much of the old tongue, while Untheric evolved greatly over the course of the millennia. Mulhorandi is an inflected language with many verb tenses and cases, word order isrelatively unimportant. It often sounds thick and slow compared to other languages, some consider this due to the influence of priestly rituals on everyday speech. Basic Mulhorandi writing consists of complicated pictureglyphs, each of which represented a different idea. Most Mulhorandi know a basic vocabulary of about 3,000 pictographs, while scribes, wizards, and priests learn a more extensive vocabulary.
